sadly tho, the tabloid press will not keep giving this story the same attention, because they will get bored off it eventually when they arent making money off it anymore, simple as that. until pete doherty has an overdose for example. i may be cynical, but i think im a realist,

yakuba, u telling me the bbc are wrong for not having hour-long news bulletins all about madeline? sadly the world needs to move on, and when iraqis are blowing themselves up i think more press coverage has to be given to other events in the world.

in my local town in northern ireland, there was a prayer service for madeline the other nite. all im asking is..where was the prayer service for the innocent iraqis killed? the killed troops sent to their death in iraq? the murdered israelis? the people who died in the shankill bomb in belfast? the people who died at the IRA brighton bomb? the people who shot in a bar as the watched the ireland vs italy in the 94 world cup? (just a few examples!) none of these stories have had such a media hype about them as much as the madeline story, so no-one really feels the need to show sympathy, therefore no prayer-services. this shows how our country and our world is controlled by the media. we are all brainwashed.
yes because she is a little girl there is more sympathy. but if the parents had looked after her, she wouldnt have been kidnapped.

dont get me wrong, im just saying that i wouldnt want this story plastered over the british press if it was my child. do you not agree that this over exposure has put her at even more risk. the News Of The World offering 1.5 million for information leading to madeline being found.this is gona create false accusations as people will be blinkered by the oppurtunity to get their hands on 1.5million, and wont care what innocent person gets caught up in this. and the news of the world wont care either as they get a bad-guy to put on their front cover, guilty or not.
the portuguese police know best how to deal with these situations as it is a regular occurance in their country. yet the brit press went on and did their own thing regardless. and then you have david beckham getting involved, he never misses an oppurtunity for some free publicity.

all im saying is that i think that the british press (apart from BBC) and in particularly ITV news, The Sun, News Of The World, have turned this story in a soap opera. they arent interested in her been found safe, that would mean the end of the story and the end of their big ratings/big newspaper sales. its in their best interests for madeline not to be found, which is a horrible thing to say.

im surprised so many many of you agreed with my comments. i was expecting a major backlash of abuse saying i dont care about the wee girl

totally agree with this. The press will get less and less money off of this tragedy the same way they got less and less money from stories about deaths surrounding the invasion of iraq.

It is a horrible thing that has happened but it happens every day in places like iraq and it basically goes unnoticed by the press because it doesnt make for good news anymore.

Sad but true.

yeah i know exactly what you mean as soon as theres abit of celebrity gossip about 'who sleeping with who' , 'whos doing drugs again' and how that good for nothing doherty 'is in a coma with suspected overdose' or something around them lines all the press will be on the story like flies round crap and stories like Maddys will be overshadowed.

I agree with you on the iraq part as well i mean the other day it focused on this story for the majority of the time and then in the last few minutes or so it was added 'oh yeah and 3 people have been killed in iraq by bombers' and to me how can you justify 1 little girls life to 3 other peoples lives it like saying their lives are not as important as hers. I'm not meaning to sound awful by saying that but they atleast deserved more than just a 'oh yeah' added in. so yeah it does show the power of the media in the exact same way as that little lad Bens. He got nothing from the media so in return it was as if his family deserved no sympathy either. This may sound bad as well but i agree i know the parents dont deserve this to happen or should it have happened but it was their own fault. The hotel had its own baby sitting service why not put the children in their rather than leaving them alone. 30 minutes to be alone in a house for a small child would seem like an eternity and to be fair i dont know how they could leave them alone as maddy at 3 was the oldest one of the lot. I mean they were well educated people as well two doctors i think so they would probably of had the money to take their own nanny if necessary. Whilst compared to Bens working class family who got nothing...shows how times really have changed.

And yeah this huge reward probably has put her more at risk as there maybe some heartless people who are all for trying to scam money out of people like this who are in anguish over their daughter. And Beckham dont get me started on him!! and ronaldo as well all in for a bit of free publicity.

I think its probably in the papers best interest for her to be found now so then they can go on for weeks and week again about the story like 'reactions after' 'what really happened' (if hopefully she is found safe and well) or sadly which i hope not the parents reaction if the worst comes to the worst. which is a terrible thing to say aswell

RE: The Madeline thread

It just saddens me to the core, i think of my daughter who is only a few months younger than Madeline and i cant even set my mind to the thought of not being with her.

I understand your views chicken and I was the first to state that the parents made a terrible, terrible mistake, however I think they've more than been punished for that. I also expected you to get a tongue lashing, but hey seems some people are like minded.

The real reason for this thread wasn't to discuss the issues surrounding the disappearance, the suspects, the family errors etc etc. It was really just to try to show some support to the family. however feel free to discuss these other points it certainly has raised some interesting views.

RE: The Madeline thread

Some points i,d like to make about the way this terrible tragedy is being conducted

The recent intervention in criminal investigations in a foreign country by chancer Brown  the  next PM.  Is it only cases on which there is a media spotlight so that he can be seen  to "care" ?
Why  are  the parents  of little Maddie  going to visit other  european  countries  and hope to meet  beckham and the pope instead of going to morocco  earlier when the first sighting was made (no press coverage  about moroccan police)
Finally, there were numerous empty locked buildings in the abduction area, not properly  searched because Portuguese law does not allow forced entry, a total f***ken  joke.
Sorry if  i am being too critical,i just hope that we hear some good news soon

RE: The Madeline thread

another example of how the british tabloid media are throwing this story down our throats

Football365:MediaWatch Wrote:
Priorities, Priorities
Five Britons have been kidnapped at gunpoint in Iraq, and are the subject of combined international rescue attempts.

The British secret services have been accused of the Litvinenko murder.

There is such concern about the knife culture in English schools that teachers have been given the legal right to search their own pupils.

And the main story on the front page of the nation's biggest-selling newspaper (the sun) is that a butterfly landed on Maddie McCann's mum's hair.

here is the story http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2007250201,00.html

RE: The Madeline thread

spot on that, i mean it is certainly too over publicized every day its something new...visiting another priest, travelling to new places, their day to day routine etc. Way too much attention while some 5 kidnapped brits get a 30 second mention at the end....'by the way this also has happened' its not right....

RE: The Madeline thread

Well this whole story has been out the news slightly for a while, but there has been an anonymous letter sent to a Dutch paper saying that this person knows where Madeline is buried. The letter identifies an area 15km (9.3 miles) from where Madeleine vanished, to be the area where she is buried. Also, this paper was sent a similar letter last year, telling the exact location of two missing Belgium girls burial place, and the location was true. So in some ways you can say at least this could be some closure for the parents if it is true, and that a buried body will contain DNA etc so the police can hopefully find the scum who did this. However, if true, it is very upsetting and the parents who have kept these thoughts out of there mind, will be devastated. But personally, I sincerley hope that this isn't true, and sometime soon little Maddy is found safe and well. Let's just pray. (Here is the story for all interested: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6749131.stm
