RE: Manchester United vs. FC Barcelona - Official Match Discussion
Surprising I am harsher on Untied than the fans of other teams. While the result is a good one, I am not happy at the way we played.
Don't know what say about that performance. Absolutely shocking, I don;t think I have seen as bad a performance since AC Milan at this stage last year. The makeshift defence played well, Evra contained Messi as well as anyone could and Ferdinand had a great game but everyone else? United stood back, defended in numbers and let Barcelona come at them, everything that pisses me off when teams do that to United. How the hell we got out of there 0-0, I don't know? Barcelona were dangerous around the box, and all those free kicks just outside the box, but I don't think Van der Sar really had any thing difficult to handle. Maybe United got lucky that some of Barcelona's players weren't match fit, but my good their finishing was atrocious. I don't think I can remember the last time United had 35% of the possession, at times it looked like a training session we Barcelona attacking and United defending. Rooney looked out of sorts, I think the hip injury is more serious than they are letting on. He was playing just ahead of the fullback all night, he hardly ever led the attack. Even Ronaldo was playing to deep and spent too much time defending. Seemed that United where content to take a 0-0 score back to Old Trafford. Not happy at all with the way they played but 0-0 with the second leg at home, is better than having to go away 0-0 for the return leg. Don;t know what to think about the return fixture, surely we can't play that bad at home. With Vidic back and Rooney maybe a little healthy, the ties still United's to lose. But if they don't play better the rest of the year, we could end up wining nothing.
