Defenders are well known for scoring great headed goals, and Riise continued the trend tonight! Beautiful header, and infront of the scarve waving walk on singing kop. In all seriousness though, in all the own goals you would see, that was a shocker. I can see that he was trying to head the ball wide of the post, yet he didn't. Maybe he should have stuck out a leg and hoofed it into oblivion. Yet, he won't sleep well tonight as his header gave Chelsea a huge advantage and they can possibly start looking at nice hotels in Moscow. Remeber, since Rafael Benitez has been at Liverpool, the reds have never scored a goal at Stamford Bridge. A 0-0 will do for Chelsea, and a 1-1 will do as well. Chelsea just don't get beat at the bridge, and I cannot see it happening again. Torres looked lisolated tonight, apart from a few shots which were brilliantly saved by Cech. It seems that to play Torres well, you need to play hard and frustrate him. On a sour note, some horrible diving from the likes of Drogba and Torres. The usual suspects going down easily is not pretty.
AS for the game as a whole, and it was more open than I predicted but still very cagey. Liverpool had the more cha nces, and Cech had to play really well, yet the defence held strong. I felt that both sides had possibly penalty decisions, with Ballack handling, and carragher hacking drogba down. Chelsea started well, Liverpool took the game by the scruff of its neck and then Chelsea came back into it. I felt that it was fading away for a 1-0 to Liverpool, yet a good cross and a poor header, turned the game on its head. By the way, check out my prediction on page 1 of the thread, I predicted 1-1 and well mystic meg lives on! Overall, Chelsea have a huge psychological egde now and Avram Grant could do something that Mourinhio couldn't, what a story that would be! However, one edge for Liverpool is that Chelsea have a huge game on Saturday, whereas Liverpool can put the reserves out at Birmingham. But still for me, the stamford Bridge factor edges it in chelseas balance.

Gutted - Liverpool only have themselves to blame, played Chelsea off the park, and that was down to how crap Chelsea were in midfield and how crap Drogba was. Liverpool had the chance to win this 3-0, and Torres was off boil today, he had two clear chances.
It was lucky for Chelsea, and maybe it just evened itself out from Garçia's ghost goal...but then Chelsea never controlled the tie like we did today.
blue - im astounded that all you remember from the game is Torres' 1 exaggerated dive after he was clipped, when Dider Drogba was shocking for 90 minutes - he actually dived - without being touched - I think I counted 4 times, and John Terry didnt deserve to stay on the pitch - he was also disgraceful, kicking Torres while he was on the floor, and then leading with his elbow twice, and so did many of the other Chelsea players, including Carvalho.
It's in Chelsea's favour now - but Liverpool DO have the ability and know how to get the result they need - possibly even penalties.
I blame Liverpool for wasted chances and the result, and Chelsea have been given the tie on the plate - but Chelsea's game play was awful.
and yes - luck did even itself out this once

Some fair comments their Huzup, especially about the diving. I don;t agree that Chelsea's goal was lucky. It was a mistake by a Liverpool player, more of a controlled own goal rather than a stroke of luck. Much less luckier than the goal that never crossed the line. And lets be fair, Liverpool have had more of their fair share of luck over the years. I disagree that Liverpool battered Chelsea, they dominated long periods of the game, yet Chelsea also had good spells and put Liverpool on the back foot. Listening to phone-ins now, Liverpool fans sound gutted and are trying to look for positives, although it looks bleak for Liverpool. I just cannot see them winning in normal time at Stamford Bridge.

the manner of the goal was lucky - no pressure from a Chelsea player and a stupid mistake
Liverpool controlled the majority of the game, the quality of the football played by Chelsea was very poor - Essien was missed, Lamps, Diving Drog, Joe Cole, Malouda and Ballack were very poor over 90 minutes, and let Liverpool control the game. The only 2 positives we can take from this is that Chelsea dont seem to want to play football and are there for the taking, AND Liverpool (under Rafa) have the experience and know-how to get a result at the bridge, despite the mental advantage Chelsea have at home.
also - I will be waiting for abcdef to retract his statement that Liverpool dont create chances...

RE: Liverpool v Chelsea - UEFA Champions League Semi-Final First Leg -Official Match Chat
That was harsh. Other than the first 10 minutes I thought Liverpool pretty well controlled the game. Cech made two very good saves late in the game off Gerrard and Torres and if one had gone in this would have ended 2-0 to Liverpool. I don't think Reina had to make a tough save all game.
Chelsea continue to get the job done, can't argue with the result, but they sure don't excite anyone. Thought Terry made some cynical tackles and should have picked up the second yellow somewhere tonight. He made no effort at all to avoid Torres and caught him with the knee, and his yellow card on the Mascherano tackle was a so called professional foul.
Other than the last ten minutes I thought Gerrard and Torres were controlled by the Chelsea defense, Torres doesn't seem to play well if you rough him up a bit.
What was Riise thinking, trying to get his head on that ball. he should have stuck his leg out and deflected it wide. Liverpool will be kicking themselves tonight, should have had a convincing win but now it's 1-1, back at the Bridge with Chelsea having the all important away goal. Perhaps Liverpool's luck in Europe has run out, or about to even up.
Liverpool do have the talent to get something at Chelsea, but I can't see it happening. Liverpool under Benitez have never scored at Chelsea and the late equalizer is going to haunt them. Looks like Chelsea are big favourites to advance to the final now.
