RE: England vs Switzerland

Beckham gets teh 100th cap, so I don't think Bentley plays.

RE: England vs Switzerland - Official Match Discussion

Looking forward to this match tonight. It will be interesting to see just how England play under Capello. Even though it is only a freindly, I imagine that Capello is very nervous about this match as he will want to get off to a good start and justifty his reputation. He also won't want to face a barrage from the press if things don't go well. It appears that Michael Owen will start on the bench, and for me this is a sign for good things to come from Capello. Owen has been out of form for a while and until he regains that form then he should not automatically start. It will also be interesting to see who Capello puts in net and I assume it will be David James but you never know. However, I expect us to beat Switzerland 2-0 and Fabio can get us off to a good start, which I hope will not be another typical English false dawn.

RE: England vs Switzerland - Official Match Discussion

from what has been seen in the training sessions, the media are guessing this team

GK: James

RB: Wes Brown
CB: Matthew Upson
CB: Rio Ferdinand
LB Ashley Cole

RM: David Bentley
CM: Steven Gerrard
CM: Owen Hargreaves
LM: Ashley Young

ST: Joe Cole
ST: Wayne Rooney
----------------
very interesting, no Woodgate, and the most interesting one of all - no out and out striker, meaning Owen only looks good enough for the bench.
A lot of pace, you might question the wings in terms of ability to cross, but both wingers there are having good seasons on the wing, Young has awesome technique, but not really noticed for their crossing.
No finisher - does that mean more responsibilty on Gerrard to bomb on forward to help supply goals?
I know that Joe Cole's favoured position is the support striker role, but no inclusion there of Owen, or even the ungainly Crouch has left me a bit :S with a glaring absent of a striker.

RE: England vs Switzerland - Official Match Discussion

I was of the opinion that Bentley is highly regarded as a crosser of the ball??
I have been hoping that he would make a mark on the England team sooner or later, as he has good potential. Capello must see something.
I am pleased with the side, not sure about Young but only cos i dont know much about him.
James is the man for the goalkeeping spot. Prone to errors but the best we have hands down. Rooney has played the out and out striker role at United so i feel he will be better suited now than ever to play that role for England, but he does not consistantly score and that pressure is relieved on him at utd by Ronaldo.
I look at that side and cant quite see where the goals are going to come from.
Even if we do put top crosses into the box, who will head them in. Rooney? Joe cole....i dont think so.
